About colorado.dance

One calendar for every dance class, social, practica, workshop and festival in Colorado — so nobody has to check nine Facebook groups to find out where to dance on a Tuesday.

Why it exists

Colorado's dance scene is enormous and almost completely invisible unless you are already in it. Salsa nights live on Instagram. Contra lives on a mailing list. The country two-step crowd has its own Facebook group, the swing scene has another, ecstatic dance has a third, and every studio publishes its own schedule in its own format on its own site. If you are new, or you have just moved here, or you dance one style and want to try another, there is no front door.

This is the front door.

What makes it different

• It covers the whole state. Not just Denver. Boulder, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Greeley, Pueblo, Grand Junction, Durango, Steamboat, Salida and the mountain towns are all in scope, and always have been.
• It covers every style. Partner dancing, studio technique, street styles, cultural and folk traditions, and movement practice — in one calendar, not one silo per scene.
• Recurring events are handled properly. A weekly class is added once. The calendar works out every future date, including awkward patterns like "first and third Friday" and every-other-week.
• Every listing answers the real questions. Do I need a partner? Is there a beginner lesson? What does it cost? Those are the things that actually stop people going, so they are on every event.
• It is built to be shared and subscribed to. Every event has its own link with the date built in, and any filtered view can be subscribed to as a live calendar feed.

What gets listed

• Classes — drop-ins, series, kids programs, technique, everything.
• Socials and practicas — the actual dancing.
• Workshops and intensives — including visiting instructors.
• Festivals, congresses and competitions.
• Performances and auditions — things to watch and things to try out for.

Every dance style qualifies. Partner dancing, studio technique, street styles, cultural and folk traditions, and movement practices like ecstatic dance all belong here.

How listings get here

Anyone can add an event. You do not have to run it. If you saw it on a flyer, a Facebook post, a studio's schedule or from a friend, add what you know — the name, the day and time, and the place are enough — and I'll check it and fill in the rest. No account, no fee, about a minute of typing. A weekly class only needs adding once; the calendar handles the repeats.

That is how this calendar becomes complete: one person noticing one gap. If you spot a dance that is not here, please add it, and please tell your dance friends they can too.

I read every submission before it appears. That is slower than publishing instantly, and it is the reason the calendar is worth checking. Expect roughly a day.

Keeping it accurate

Dance schedules change constantly — venues close, nights move, series end. Every event and venue page has a "Something wrong? Tell us" button: tap what is wrong, tap send, done. No account, no email required, about five seconds. Those corrections come straight to me.

Using the calendar elsewhere

Every filtered view can be subscribed to as a live calendar feed. Narrow it to exactly what you care about — beginner-friendly bachata in Boulder, say — then subscribe, and it keeps itself up to date in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook.

There is also an open JSON feed with the same data and the same filters, no key required. If you want to put Colorado dance listings in your own app, newsletter or studio website, please do — a link back is appreciated but not required.
